These are some of the poor souls out of work in 2010. All highly skilled with no meaningful chance of finding work. The government had better come up with something QUICK. How many families will be uprooted, how many kids will be ripped away from their young friends and moved to some sweaty mining town. This plant closure is a social disaster and needs a proper social plan to allow this community to maintain its fabric. The amount of money the government has made available stinks and wont get the job done. We must force the powers to listen. Please make an effort to forward this blog site to as many people as possible. We need to build this campaign...Fair Trade not Free Trade...

My Cus Murray from Moe was down here tha other day and he reckons dat with all these factory closures and unemployed type people everywhere, that Geelong reminded him of home.
He called it tha Moe of tha Western District. We could be like sister cities.
"What are these blokes gonna do?"
March enforce on City hall calling for the heads that are paid to run the City and demand BLOOD! You would have to be an Ostrich (with head in sand) not to realise it is they (the elders) who have not done a bloody stitch in regards to the welfare of the newly redundant Engine Plant Workers. As long as they can do the bidding for (they who pay there way) ie; Property Developers & Fruit & veggie kings, they will NOT get of their respective arse's for the any real cause for general populous of Geelong....The're grafty little bastards.
The U.S and Australian federal governments have failed to lasso these savage transnational beasts and pull them back into line. They've let them run rampant for far too long. They're out of control. Now all workers are starting to suffer as a direct result....You've got my suuport 100%.
Design a "green engine" - electric/ bio-fuel/hydrogen - adapted for trucks too.
Go to the Superannuation funds to get an 'ethical loan' to fund it and then make sure the local emergency services (police, ambulance firebrigade) taxis, busses, Telstra, truckers, Council etc buy and use the green engine vehicles.
Get locals learning an apprenticeship in how to design and make "green engine' vehicles and get a team of expereinced workers to then go overseas to teach others how to and visitors from overseas to come to Geelong to see how it is done.
Eventually car owners will want the local vehicles too and you have a sustainable ie longer term local UNION MADE industry.
Ask the ambos, fireies and cops who are standing in the next State elections for emergency services to consider support- ing the development; as a start to shake up the existing Politicians of ALL Parties.
Why isn’t free trade being applied to all industries? For example, one that’s very dear to many of our hearts, the AFL (Australian Football League). The very systems and ideologies that are supposed to be good for the rest for us are apparently not so good for the sports industry. An industry that pride’s itself upon competition and is supposed to be all about the survival of the fittest. Well, you won’t find any free trade agreements here. Instead, there’s a highly scrutinised player draft system to prevent wealthier clubs from buying up all the best players and gaining a monopoly. In fact all manner of rules and regulations exist on and off the arena, in order to maintain a fair level playing field. Preventative measures to prohibit the rich clubs from attaining an upper hand over the poorer clubs. The introduction of free trade and abolishment of all regulatory policies would be the death knell for this industry. Well, guess what? Free trade and the removal of all protections for manufacturing is no good for the Australian industry either.
Good on you guys, keep up the good work..Let's save manufacturing in Australia...
its great to see people standing up against corporate restructuring, which is the centre piece of our 'miracle' economy, but which in reality destroys persons, families and community. what is happening in geelong is happening across australia. we have to stand up and fight
