THE Geelong Advertiser published some comments that I made regarding the loss of some 600 to 2000-3000 jobs and the inexcusable total disregard by our civic leaders to do something positive to keep the Ford engine plant in Geelong and retain all those jobs.
Late that afternoon I received a phone from an angry mayor of Geelong who claimed that my article was most offensive and completely wrong......

Review threat to Ford jobs
By Geelong Story Updates
9th August 2007 01:14:22 PM
Hundreds more jobs are under a cloud at Ford’s Geelong plant, unions have warned.
One has to ask, as these threats of more redundancies are hinted at, where is Member for Parliament Michael Clutchless, what are his views and what, if anything, is he doing about it?
My personal opinion is that in essence he (Clutchless) is shying away for the very reason he hasn't a clue, like, if the problem is not of small and insignificant nature being addressed at a social function involving pretend people and media then he is like a fish out of water.
If the same splurge of resources, money and political input that flows into the local football team was ever put into the manufacturing industry you could say that something worthwhile was being done, but sadly, that is not the case. But then I suppose we could all survive off the contributions to society that those in the football club produce?
Costa, Crutchfield, Harwood, Brazier etc, Do you hear them screaming for a goal from the government to help with this Ford tragedy?
I DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a huge and disgusting shame that Geelong has a Council that is more apt to ply money and resources into touristy crap than into what actually made Geelong what it is. And there is no point in calling on the Committee for Geelong (the Committee for themselves) oop's. They are about useful as dried dog turds.
Now the shytes hit the fan do you see ANY of the below dignitaries flouting their wares? NOPE, they've gone to ground the show-pony weasles.
Billion dollar investment reaffirms Geelong's role in Ford's global vision
05 May 2006
The announcement of a major new investment in Ford Australia reaffirms the strategic role Geelong plays within the Ford Corporation at a global level, said City of Greater Geelong Mayor Cr Peter McMullin.
The Mayor was commenting on the announcement today of a $1.8 billion investment over the next ten years to be divided between Ford Australia's Geelong and Broadmeadows operations.
"This is sensational news for the Geelong region and positions our city as a centre of excellence for automotive design and engineering within the Asia Pacific region," he said.
"Ford Geelong will spearhead the product design and development of the next generation Ford Falcon and Territory models," the Mayor said.
"It will also play a key role in the development of a new light commercial vehicle to be marketed throughout the Asia Pacific region and Africa.
The investment will create an additional 273 jobs to be shared between the Geelong and Broadmeadows plants and up to 1200 indirect jobs amongst component suppliers.
"Geelong is particularly well placed to secure these ancillary jobs because of the large number of component suppliers that operate here," the Mayor said.
"Ford has been one of the lynch pins of Geelong's manufacturing sector for many years and today's announcement reaffirms its position into the future.
"Winning these sorts of major projects is an excellent example of how resilient and vibrant Geelong's manufacturing sector is.
The Mayor said that Geelong's manufacturing sector was responding to the challenges presented by globalisation by investing in value added processes such as product design and development.
"Today's announcement by Ford caps a huge week for Geelong, with the release today of Axiom Energy's proposal to establish a biodiesel facility in North Geelong, and Wednesday's launch of the SalesForce call centre which promises up to 300 new jobs," the Mayor said.
Ford is Geelong's largest employer in the manufacturing sector with approximately 2,600 full time employees.
Today's announcement was made at Ford's Broadmeadows plant in the presence of the Prime Minister John Howard, the Federal Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources Ian McFarlane, the Premier Steve Bracks and State Treasurer John Brumby.
The cities leader have all gone to ground on this one. I can't beleive what they said when manufacturing news was good. the silence coming for the weak bastards now is deaferning, bunch of spinless arseholes!!!!!!
The untouchable 9 are so up themselves, they are headless. What happened to all the good they were going to do all the community instead of only the developing few?
Harwood show some guts and stand up to the Ford Co. and the Shell Co and stop letting shonky councillors represent us on the farcical community committees - let's get real and keep industry alive and well in Geelong.
Geelong Ford workers,
We as a nation must worry more about our society (as represented by your community) than about the demands of corporatiosn to make money.
Your plight is not un-noticed, keep making noise!
Keep up the good work stu. You have all 600 of us backing you up
