That sounds like heaps of money! What possible cause could you have for more? $5 mill per business will buy 1 machine tool and an industrial stength angle grinder. If you're lucky. Come on Johnny you can do better than that.
You guys must be poor cousins. South Australia got $50 million....
Whats the council doing
Congrats on getting your blog going. Lets encourage as many Ford workers and their supporters as possible to join in.
All big companies like Ford have business plans for each of their business units that plan 5-10 years into the future. Every now and then Ford present an edited version of this plan to union representatives. The edited version is tailored to suit whatever their current agenda might be with the workforce. But, don't the Geelong workforce and their community deserve something better? Shouldn't the full business plan for Geelong be released for wide public discussion and from there decent and respectful negotiations to ensure a solid future for manufacturing in Geelong? Wouldn't this fit with Kevin Rudd's aim to renew manufacturing in Australia?
congrats on your blog.
You are right to focus on the US Free trade agreement which has cost us many manufacturing jobs and has worsened Australia's ballance of trade. The Howard Government negotiated a dud deal and was pushed into it by the multi-national companies like Ford. Ford has no real loyalty to Australian workers. What is needed is Government intervention WITH STRINGS to make sure that there is investment for the future, local content, local purchasing, local jobs and training and development for local workers. Your work to achieve a campaign for real local investment, real jobs and a comprehensive plan is the way to go.
All 24 million will do is encourage a particular fruit shop owner or a bunnings ware house to expand there facilities cause it certainly wont cover any major manufacturing company's to relocate there business and pay for expansions
The Multinational's and Big companies have achieved their goals by getting the Liberal Coalition to Squeese the "Working Class" and remove Award wages and condtions.
We in the So called Developed Western part of the globe have slowly ground down our Manufacturing facilities which is the backbone of a strong economy.
